Bible Training in Swahili: A Complete Curriculum for Pastors Across East Africa

Across Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, thousands of pastors serve growing churches without ever having had access to formal theological training. Seminary is often too expensive, too far away, or requires years away from the very congregations that need them most. BTCP's pastor-training curriculum, fully translated into Swahili (Kiswahili), closes that gap, putting sound, in-depth Bible training directly into local churches.

A Complete Curriculum, Ready in Swahili

Every part of the BTCP program is available in Swahili today. The curriculum offers three tracks so that training fits the calling and context of each student:

  • BTCP (10 courses) — full pastoral certification for men who meet the biblical qualifications for pastors outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1

  • BTCL (8 courses) — Bible Training for Church Leaders, open to any committed disciple, including women and lay leaders

  • BTCI (5 courses) — a foundational overview of Scripture, doctrine, and ministry

Rather than a classroom lecture hall, each course happens in a local, life-on-life setting, no exams, no tuition debt, and no years spent away from a church or family. Students work directly through Scripture with a local instructor, discussing and applying what they read as they go.

Already Reaching Thousands Across East Africa

Swahili-language BTCP training is well established, not a new or unproven effort. Across Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and beyond, hundreds of classes have run over the years, led by dozens of different ministry partners, each bringing the same curriculum into their community. Even in DR Congo, where French is the more common language for this training, Swahili-language classes have still reached dozens of communities in the country's east.

For individual pastors, the impact is personal. Pastor David Muriu had spent years discouraged by church leaders who told him "theology is a killer" and "seminaries are cemeteries." After completing BTCP, he described a transformation, not just in his own understanding of Scripture and doctrine, but in his readiness to serve as a chaplain in his local community. A Curriculum That Travels

Swahili is spoken and understood across a wide stretch of East Africa, even beyond the classes already running. For every pastor currently enrolled, there are many more still without access to any formal training, leading churches on personal conviction alone, with no one to walk them through the doctrinal and pastoral questions every leader eventually faces.

That gap, not any single region or partner, is what BTCP exists to close: a complete, doctrinally sound curriculum, already proven across East Africa, ready to be brought into more churches across the region.

Bring BTCP to Your Ministry

BTCP doesn't train students directly. We equip ministry partners, churches, denominations, and mission organizations, to run the program themselves, using our full curriculum, model, and ongoing support.
