From Rwanda to the Nations: How Bible Training Sent James Around the World
In the hills of Rwanda, James started as a pastor hungry to understand God's Word better. Today, he's teaching Bible classes in Pakistan, training church leaders in Mozambique, and planning to open five new BTCP classes back home with 72 students already registered. His story shows what happens when you give a pastor solid biblical training—sometimes the results reach places you never expected.
Getting Started: A Pastor Who Wanted to Learn
James joined Bible Training Centre for Pastors (BTCP) in 2010. Like many pastors in developing countries, he faced a common problem: he wanted deeper biblical education but couldn't afford traditional seminary or take years away from his ministry.
"BTCP has been beneficial for me," James says. "I see it has changed my life and my family. This teaching gave me understanding of the Word of God and how to practice it." He wasn't looking for just head knowledge—he needed training that would actually help him be a better pastor.
That's exactly what he got. The BTCP program gave James both biblical depth and practical skills he could use immediately. Instead of theoretical discussions about ministry, he learned concrete ways to teach, lead, and care for people. This foundation became crucial for everything that followed.
Caring for Rwanda's Children
With his new training, James didn't retreat into books. He turned his attention to some of Rwanda's most vulnerable people: orphaned children.
He developed programs that addressed more than just physical needs. Drawing from his BTCP training, he created approaches that helped orphans spiritually and emotionally, too. This work became a testing ground where James could practice the leadership and pastoral care techniques he'd learned.
Serving these children taught James skills that would prove invaluable later. He learned how to adapt his teaching for different audiences, how to show compassion in practical ways, and how to lead others in difficult circumstances.
Training Other Pastors Back Home
James realized the training that had helped him could help other pastors too. He began using the BTCP program to train church leaders in Rwanda, understanding how much pastors in his region needed quality, affordable biblical education.
"This program has been a help to us so much for pastors and leaders in regards to being trained," James explains. "We have testimony of how many pastors—their lives, even their churches—are being changed through this BTCP program."
The results were obvious. Churches led by BTCP-trained pastors started growing—not just bigger, but more mature. These pastors could better shepherd their people and tackle local problems. They had the biblical foundation and practical skills they needed.
Word spread about James's effectiveness as a trainer. Other church leaders began noticing that BTCP offered something different: quality training that actually worked in real ministry situations, without the cost and time barriers of traditional seminary.
An Unexpected Invitation: Teaching in Pakistan
Then something surprising happened. Pastor Munir from Pakistan reached out to James with an unusual request: would he come teach BTCP classes in Pakistan?
"I connected with one pastor, Munir, in Pakistan, and he invited me to their class in Pakistan," James recalls. "I went there to teach for their class there—the BTCP program in Pakistan. They were really very interested in that, and they still need more."
Pakistan seemed like an unlikely destination for a pastor from Rwanda. The culture was completely different, the language was different, and the challenges there were quite different from those in Rwanda. But he went anyway.
The trip proved something important: good biblical training works anywhere. The Pakistani pastors responded enthusiastically to the same principles and methods that had worked in Rwanda.
Opening Doors to Other Nations
Success in Pakistan led to invitations from other countries. James found himself traveling to places like Mozambique and Kenya, carrying BTCP training to new cultures and contexts.
"I've been traveling to many different countries that also need... like now in Mozambique," James notes. "We have been connected to different nations in need of the BTCP program."
Each country presented unique challenges. In Mozambique, he works with Portuguese-speaking pastors dealing with post-colonial church issues. In Kenya, he worked with leaders facing rapid urbanization and diverse tribal backgrounds. But the core need remained the same everywhere: pastors need solid biblical training they can actually access and afford.
James learned to adapt his teaching methods for each culture while keeping the essential BTCP principles intact. The program's flexibility made this possible—it wasn't rigid or culturally bound, but it was thoroughly biblical and practical.
Building Something That Lasts
Back in Rwanda, James continues expanding the program. "We are planning this year to open five classes," he reports. "We already have 72 students registered. We hope maybe by May we will start this program."
This growth represents more than numbers. James is building a sustainable system for training pastors that can meet Rwanda's long-term needs. Each new class produces better-equipped pastors who might eventually become trainers themselves.
This multiplication effect is one of BTCP's strongest features. Instead of creating dependence on outside help, the program equips local leaders who can train others. James himself is proof of this—a student who became a teacher, then became a trainer of trainers across multiple countries.
Why This Model Works
James's story reveals several important principles about effective pastor training:
Good training creates good leaders. James's own growth through BTCP gave him the knowledge and confidence he needed for expanded ministry. When pastors receive quality education, they become capable of greater things.
Local success opens global doors. James's effectiveness in Rwanda created opportunities for international service. Excellence in your immediate context often leads to broader influence.
Practical training crosses cultural boundaries. The methods that worked in Rwanda also worked in Pakistan, Mozambique, and Kenya. When training is both biblically sound and practically focused, it can succeed anywhere.
Accessible training creates sustainable results. BTCP's approach ensures that cost doesn't prevent qualified pastors from getting education. This accessibility is crucial for global church growth.
A Global Network of Trained Pastors
What makes James's story particularly significant is how it fits into BTCP's larger mission. He's not an isolated success story—he's part of a growing network of pastors who received affordable pastor training and are now multiplying that impact worldwide.
The program offers what many pastors desperately need: economical pastor training that doesn't compromise on quality. Unlike traditional seminary education that requires years of full-time study at a significant cost, BTCP provides accessible pastor training that works within the constraints of active ministry.
This approach is especially crucial for pastor training for missions contexts, where traditional educational models often fail to address local needs. James's success across diverse cultures demonstrates that when training is biblically grounded and practically focused, it can thrive anywhere.
Meeting a Global Need
Churches are growing rapidly around the world, especially in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. But many of these churches are led by pastors who have little or no formal theological training. They want to serve well, but they need help understanding Scripture and developing ministry skills.
Programs like BTCP address this need by offering low cost seminary alternatives that maintain high standards. The training includes fun Bible study methods that engage students while thoroughly preparing them for real ministry challenges.
For pastors without seminary access, BTCP provides a viable path to quality education. The program recognizes that many excellent pastors simply can't leave their churches for years of traditional seminary study. Instead, it brings training to them in formats that work with their schedules and budgets.
The Ripple Effect Continues
James continues his international ministry while expanding work in Rwanda. His story encourages other pastors facing similar challenges—it shows that with proper training and willingness to serve, pastors from any background can make a global impact.
Soon, the Pakistani pastors James trained will be capable of training others. Each training session creates ripple effects that continue expanding.
Meanwhile, back in Rwanda, James's five new classes should produce dozens more trained pastors! Some of those pastors will likely become trainers themselves, continuing the multiplication process.
Looking Ahead
As global Christianity continues growing, especially in the Global South, the need for effective, affordable pastor training will only increase. Stories like James's provide both inspiration and practical guidance for meeting this need.
His journey from student to international trainer demonstrates what's possible when pastors receive quality, accessible training. It shows that local leaders, properly equipped, can impact their communities and reach across cultures to serve the global church.
The Bible Training Centre for Pastors continues developing its approach based on feedback from graduates like James. The program maintains its commitment to providing global Bible training that is both excellent and accessible, creating a church leadership pipeline that can sustain healthy church growth worldwide.
James's ongoing ministry serves as evidence of what happens when you invest in training pastors well. His story isn't unique—it represents potential that exists in pastors worldwide who simply need access to quality, affordable education. Through individuals like James, BTCP continues fulfilling its mission of strengthening churches and advancing the Gospel across cultural and geographical boundaries.
